World Diabetes Day 2023

1 in 10 adults worldwide have diabetes. Over 90% have type 2 diabetes. Close to half are not yet diagnosed. Prevention of type 2 diabetes and diabetes-related complications is the focus of the final year of the World Diabetes Day 2021-23 theme Access to Diabetes Care.

In many cases, type 2 diabetes and its complications can be delayed or prevented by adopting and maintaining healthy habits. Knowing your risk and what to do is important to support prevention, early diagnosis and timely treatment.

Therefore, as a small contribution in the global efforts, this World Diabetes Day Helix Animation team has prepared an educational 3D animated Mechanism of Disease (MOD) video on Type 2 Diabetes:

World Diabetes Day (WDD) was established in 1991 by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization and became an official United Nations Day in 2006. It is observed every year on 14 of November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922.

Represented by a blue circle logo - a global symbol for diabetes awareness, WDD is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries.

The theme for World Diabetes Day 2021-23 is access to diabetes care. In 2023, the campaign focuses on the importance of knowing your risk of type 2 diabetes to help delay or prevent the condition and highlighting the impact of diabetes-related complications and the importance of having access to the right information and care to ensure timely treatment and management.
